Dr. Rick Ramos has made significant contributions to both education and public safety. With an educational doctorate from San Francisco State University focused on enrollment trends and barriers in community colleges for California students, he is adept at devising strategies to improve access to higher education. His expertise extends to developing contextualized English and Math courses aimed at phasing out traditional basic skills courses, reflecting his commitment to innovative teaching practices.

Having taught at both community colleges and state universities in California, Dr. Ramos combines academic experience with administrative roles, such as serving as dean of allied health and public safety at Merritt College in Oakland. His background in law enforcement is notable; he served in the Berkeley Police Department for over a decade, eventually reaching the rank of Sergeant. Furthermore, his role on the Richmond Police Commission involved investigating police misconduct and fostering community policing initiatives, highlighting his dedication to accountability and rapport between the police and the communities they serve.

Dr. Ramos also emphasizes diversity in police recruitment, focusing on bringing in candidates from underrepresented groups.
