Many departments are currently suffering from low staffing, higher demand of service, and push-back from the community. And when departments do get people interested in applying often they are either not qualified or under prepared to make it through the rigorous process of hiring for first responders.
As a team of current and past first responders and communication and strategy experts, we recognize that the current way of preparing potential candidates for application and recruitment journey needs to change. The academies do their job once they are are accepted, but to often the candidates going into academies are not prepared and completion rates are not where they could and should be,
Lets better educate people interested in a career as a first responder so they have the physical, educational and background experience that will help them be not just better candidates but better prepared to get successfully hired.
We also recognize this cannot be done by adding more work onto already under-staffed and overworked recruitment officers.
