COMMUNITY SAFETY ACADEMY
ARE YOU INTERESTED IN LEARNING AND EXPERIENCING SOME OF WHAT YOUR RICHMOND POLICE OFFICERS DO ON A DAILY BASIS AND HOW INVESTIGATIONS ARE HANDLED? If the answers to both questions are “YES”, please read on and apply!
The Richmond Police Department is accepting applications for the Community Safety Academy (CSA) that aims to educate, empower and engage residents from within our community. This academy is another way for us to reach deeper into our community, to forge an even stronger relationship that encompasses the core values of community policing. At the end of the 8-week academy, we will graduate a team of ambassadors who can share with other residents, the internal workings of our organization, the philosophy and principles we are guided by, and the graduates can empower other residents with safety recommendations learned from the academy. This course is not designed to train residents to be police officers, but rather, to be ambassadors that embody the core values of the department and what is most important to residents of the community.
Some of the main topics the academy will cover are patrol/investigation procedures, force options, SWAT, K-9, traffic enforcement, crime prevention, CSI, Office of Professional Accountability, basic laws, and much more. Students will be required to attend police ride-alongs with our officers and participate in class with minimal absences (5 hours).
The venue for the academy is at the Richmond Police Department (with occasional field trips) on Thursday evenings from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM and every other Saturday from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM. Graduates of the CSA will receive a certificate from the city and a badge pin that will designate them as ambassadors of our police department.
Space for this the Community Safety Academy is extremely limited, on a first come, first served basis. If you are a Richmond resident, 16 yrs or older, and interested in learning more about this department, please click on the link below and fill out the application:
