POLICE ASSISTANT (PART TIME)

$17.69 – $23.72 Hourly

Nature of Position
This is a part-time position with limited benefits.

The Police Assistant I performs a variety of non-sworn police work and other related work as required and may be assigned to an activity or may rotate to a variety of assignments to meet departmental needs.  Assignments may include:  traffic and vehicle control, including investigation of reports of abandoned vehicles, taking appropriate action, and enforcing parking regulations; crowd control and crime scene protection; response to non-hazardous animal control incidents; handle public inquiries and related work at the front desk.

Example of Duties

  • Prepare routine incident and crime reports; address the public on assigned topics;
  • Develop, maintain, and coordinate community crime prevention programs;
  • Handle inquiries involving police, fire, and medical emergencies and routine calls for service;
  • Make inquiries through federal, state, and local computer information systems;
  • Operate computers using word processing, spreadsheets, database, desktop publishing, and other software;
  • Compile information, make statistical calculations;
  • Prepare reports;
  • Perform clerical duties in support of departmental operations;
  • Assist with special events, such as parades, fairs, etc.

STEP 1 - ORAL BOARDS

Once MQ’s are met, applicant is scheduled for an oral board.

STEP 2 - PERSONAL HISTORY STATEMENT

Upon successful completion of the oral board, the applicant will
receive a PDF copy of the Personal History Statement. Accurate
and thorough completion of the PHS is required by the due date.

STEP 3 - ONE ON ONE INTERVIEW

After the PHS is reviewed and if selected to move forward, the
applicant will be invited for an in-person PHS review. It is
recommended the applicant present a passing WSTB/PAT (323 min
score) at this meeting.

STEP 4 - LIVESCAN (Fingerprints)

At this meeting the applicant will be Livescanned and Pre-
Employment notarized waivers will be completed.

STEP 5 - PERSONAL HISTORY QUESTIONAIRE

If selected to move forward, applicant will be sent an email advising them of
such along with a link to complete the Personal History Questionnaire.

STEP 6 - POLYGRAPH

The polygraphers report will be reviewed, and a decision will be made if the
applicant will be forwarded to a background investigator.

STEP 7 - BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION

The applicant will need to be responsive and promptly deliver any required
documentation to their BGI. The background investigation can take anywhere
from six weeks to twelve weeks depending on the applicant’s history. The
completed background will be reviewed internally by a few key members of
the agency.

STEP 8 - COMMANDER INTERVIEW

If the background is met with approval the candidate will be scheduled for
Commander’s Interviews.

STEP 9 - MEDICAL & PSYCH EXAM

If selected the candidate will be given a Conditional Job Offer, pending the
successful completion of POST medical and psychological examination.

STEP 10 - READY FOR HIRE

Once medically and psychologically cleared the applicant is now eligible
